Wormwood Soda

Sunday, June 13, 2021

I enjoy bitter things. I love IPAs, and enjoy a good Boulevardier. So it should be no surprise that when I want a refreshing non-alcoholic drink I reach for Wormwood Soda.

I know what you're thinking: Wormwood? Like that stuff in absinthe? Yes, the very same. Wormwood has a biting bitterness, which I find refreshing, and can be found in bulk on Amazon, or at your local herbal store.

So, how do I make it into a soda?

Soda Concentrate

  • 6 cups water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup dried Wormwood
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

Bring the sugar and the water to a boil, stir in the Wormwood and lemon juice, turn off the heat, and strain it when it is cool.

To use, simply mix about 20:1 ratio of soda water to soda concentrate, and adjust for taste.

Please note that WebMD has a ton of things to say about Wormwood, so if you aren't sure it's for you, then you might want to read it.
